Division 3 - Concrete
Section 03310 Concrete
Work
image 20: Concrete beams.
In this image the formwork of an upturned beam at the roof penthouse is being stripped. The form separates easily from the concrete due to a form release solution which is applied to the inside of the forms prior to the installation of reinforcing steel and subsequent concrete. Note the chamfered edge to the concrete. The edge of site cast concrete is difficult to place cleanly without this chamfer. The finish edge is therefore is much cleaner and straighter with the chamfer. Concrete cast under shop conditions in steel forms (see the precast lintels and sills in the first image of Division 1) may achieve a sharper edge finish, but it is still subject to chipping.
