The image shows a masonry construction joint and/or expansion joint constructed with a sash end block. The control joint filler (extruded high grade neoprene rubber) has been installed in the joint while the block wall was laid up. Careful coordination of structural and architectural drawings has placed the construction joint one block past the cross braced column bay. The joint may now be backed and caulked which would not be possible if it fell on the column centerline. The sensibility of this type of assembly is clearly apparent in this image. It will allow the building to be constructed on a dynamic schedule due to the non-alignment separation of structure, assemblies and finishes.
