Section 04200 Unit Masonry

image 9: Precast lintels.

The view is of a spandrel wall over a window at the bricklayer's scaffold. The precast concrete lintels have been set on top of the shelf angle and flashing as the first course of unit masonry in this particular lift. The brick and mortar pans have temporary protection over them as this image was taken at the end of a workday.

image 10: Spandrel wall & construction joints.

Image 10 shows the completed spandrel with face brick over the precast lintel. The brick has an 8x8 face, laid with a running bond. The deep girder at the next floor is indicative of the necessary bracing required at the head of this spandrel to resist wind and thermal loading. Note the construction joints cut clearly through the bond and the pattern established by the architectural elevation drawings.
