     Section 09440 Terrazzo

image 8: Terrazzo flooring.

Image 8 indicates the checker boarding installation of terrazzo flooring. The terrazzo used here is an epoxy type which is thin set directly over the slab on grade. Materials are being stored on the terrazzo surface prior to polishing. Once the finished polishing operation is complete, the floor is inspected and protected until the Owner accepts responsibility for the finish.

Image 9 illustrates grinding and polishing procedures which cut and polish the aggregate, held within the epoxy terrazzo matrix, to a high sheen. Once polished the floor is complete as a finished surface.

image 10: Terrazzo treads and risers.

Shown here are precast and pre-finished terrazzo treads and risers at the main lobby area. These were installed over steel framed stairs custom made for this installation. Note the safety non slip strips embedded in the treads. The floor finishes are among the last finishes to be installed in a building.
