The Artistic Responses Collection contains creative works produced by poets, dramatists, visual artists, and others in response to or inspired by the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland on December 21, 1988.
The Artistic Responses Collection contains creative works produced by poets, dramatists, visual artists, and others in response to or inspired by the bombing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland on December 21, 1988. This collection has been divided into the following series:
Dramatic works includes materials related to the dramatic works The Women of Lockerbie, A Remarkable Story: The Voices of Pan Am 103, and The Bird and the Two-Ton Weight.
Film and television includes promotional material for the documentary Since: The Bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, directed by Phil Furey.
General artworks includes the original artwork for the dove surrounded by the names of the 35 Syracuse University study abroad students killed in the bombing, created by Jonathan Hoefer and used as the center panel of the Remembrance Quilt.
Music includes lyrics and sheet music, as well as two albums that were produced by Hazel Peterson and Kathleen Sykora.
Photography consists of the album "Lockerbie: Beyond the Tragedy," compiled by Lawrence Mason, Jr.'s 1999 Syracuse University photography class.
Poetry includes works that were published in newspapers and books.
Please note that the collection is housed off-site, and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Reading Room on campus.
Access to audiovisual material requires advance notice to produce a use copy.
Written permission must be obtained from the Pan Am Flight 103 Archives and all relevant rights holders before publishing quotations, excerpts or images from any materials in this collection.
Artistic responses donated by and/or pertaining to a specific family or individual can be found in individual victim and family collections.

Syracuse University Libraries
Gift of Karen DeGroot Carter, Lawrence Mason, Jr., Kathy Daniels Tedeschi, the Office of Undergraduate Studies, and various other donors between 1996 and 2019. Other materials in the collection were purchased by the Archives. This collection consists of materials originally found in the Syracuse University: Subject Files Collection, which has been dismantled in order to from several smaller collections.
Materials have been placed in acid free folders and acid free boxes.
