Jane Tam, Art Photography, Junior, Syracuse University
The concepts of home and family have been a strong focal point of the artist's recent work, drawing her to the spaces of nostalgia related to her home, her grandparents, her neighborhood, etc. When she views photographs of her home, she imagines the people who interact in the space. The illustrations depict typical photographs-of birthdays, vacations, and portraits-seen in family albums, but in this case combine two cultures: American Caucasian and Asian, in New York City. The work represents the artist's identity as both Chinese and American. Created in 2007 in an edition of three.
Jane Tam, originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., is a junior art photography major in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. She developed a strong interest in printmaking while in her sophomore year, and her work emphasizes spontaneity, nostalgia, and humor.
