Drink a Cup of Loneliness features 21 poems by David Budbill illustrated by 14 woodcut prints by Susan Jane Walp. The text is printed letterpress from hand set Goudy Oldstyle type on Hahnemühle Biblio paper. The binding is in an Ethiopian style with olive green colored banana paper boards. Created in 2006 in an edition of 100 copies signed by the poet and the artist.
Robert Walp began his bookmaking career in the spring of 2000 at Vermont College in Montpelier, Vermont. He has taken numerous book arts workshops since then and in 2006 earned an MFA in the book arts from the University of Alabama, where he received the Raymond F. McClain Book Arts Award in April 2006. His work can be found in many collections including the University of Vermont's Bailey Library; the Cerritos Public Library; the Brown University Rockefeller Library in Providence, Rhode Island; and the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont. He works from his studio in the Adirondacks under the imprint of Chester Creek Press (http:www.chestercreekpress.com) and teaches workshops at the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts in Blue Mountain Lake, Blue Seed Studio in Saranac Lake, and the Town of Chester Public Library. He is a member of the Guild of Book Workers and is curator of the Book Arts Collection at the Town of Chester Public Library.
