Cynthia Wang, Art Photography, Junior, Syracuse University
The artist grew up drawing lines and abstract figures, and there were times when she repeatedly drew them until they began to form an image. In Dancing Lines, she created line drawings based on observations and images she had seen or remembered. The line drawings themselves are created on a sewing machine with thin colored threads and a few sewn-over found fabrics. Every three pages mark a different theme or story that revolves around nature and the living environment. For example, the first three pages of the first signature identify straight lines or a "flow" and musical scores, while the last three pages of the fourth signature signify womanless and female identity. Created in 2007 in an edition of three.
Cynthia Wang was born in New York City and has been interested in art since she took arts and crafts in elementary school. She is now majoring in art photography in the College of Visual and Performing Arts and has many other interests in art including bookmaking, fibers, and printmaking.
