Syracuse University Libraries is hosting several faculty workshops in the Fall 2024 in the Mower Faculty Commons, located on the 5th floor of Bird Library:

Assessing New Publishing Venues – MDPI, Frontiers, and More

Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 3:30 – 5:30pm

Faculty panelists will share their thoughts and experiences working with some of the fastest growing publishers, including MDPI and Frontiers. In an era of new publishing venues, business models, and shifting perspectives on issues of journals’ quality and trustworthiness, how do you choose an appropriate venue for your work? Should you publish in an MDPI or Frontiers’ journal? What should you consider when evaluating a journal? Panelists will answer questions like these, while discussing the merits of different publishers/venues.

The panel discussion will take place from 4:00-5:00 pm, and there will be time to talk with colleagues over refreshments before and after the presentation.

Registration for this event is required, and the event will be capped at 60 people.

Lunch and Learn: Utilizing Gale Primary Sources for Research and Teaching

Friday, September 27, 2024 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm; NOTE Location: Spector Room 608, Bird Library

This session will highlight specific features within the Gale Primary Sources platform that center around building primary source literacy. It will cover interdisciplinary connections with content and features to support primary source literacy and investigation. A variety of collections will be explored such as Power to the People: Counterculture, Social Movements, and the Alternative Press, Archives of Sexuality and Gender, Political Extremism and Radicalism, and Environmental History and more. Open Access Week SURFACE submit-a-thon

Thursday, October 24th, 2024, 2pm - 4pm

Join representatives from the Libraries’ Digital and Open Scholarship Team to learn more about Open Access and the SURFACE Institutional repository. Drop in to have your questions answered, to learn about Authors’ Rights, and to receive assistance uploading your materials to the repository. Advanced registration is not required.

ORCID and Research Profiles Drop-in

Tuesday, November 19, 2024, 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Stop by to ask questions about research and scholarly profiles, including ORCID, connecting ORCID to ScieENcv, Google Scholar profiles, ResearchGate, Academia.edu, and more. The Libraries’ Research Impact Team will be there to answer questions, troubleshoot, and help with profile setup. Advanced registration is not required.
