Libraries Add Sensory Friendly Study Rooms
Syracuse University Libraries has recently added ten sensory friendly study rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors of Bird Library. Most of the rooms are reservable online and are low light, low sound and universally accessible. They include:
- A dimmable lamp, so patrons can control their own lighting levels
- A basket with a liquid bubbler and a variety of fidget items
- A couple of sensory discs
The sensory equipment must remain in the rooms and should not be removed. Additional sensory-friendly items are also now available at the Bird Library 1st floor Check Out Desk, including noise-cancelling headphones and protective earmuffs. The transition to sensory friendly rooms is made possible thanks to a Catalyst grant received from the Central NY Library Resources Council (CLRC).
