Libraries Plans New Search Interface as Part of Integrated Library Services Platform
Syracuse University Libraries is upgrading to a new cloud-based library services platform that includes an updated Libraries Search interface on June 26, 2024. Following is key information for faculty, students, researchers and other Libraries users:
- As the Libraries migrates data into the new system, processing of requests for new books, videos or other resources added to the collection is on hold until August 1, 2024. Users can still submit item requests to subject librarians or via the Suggest a Title form, but requests will not be processed until August 1, pending the Libraries completion of the migration. During the migration, Libraries’ databases, streaming video packages, journal collections, eBook collections, interlibrary (ILL) services and more will continue to be available, offering familiar content and search features.
- Anyone with saved ‘My Searches’ or ‘My List’ information in the Classic Catalog should document or export their work prior to June 1. Users can save a copy of work by taking a screenshot of ‘My Searches’ or using the My List Feature that provides a print, export or email option. Those using the Summon ‘Saved Items’ feature can export, print or email to save information.
- Circulation history of what is currently borrowed will be migrated to the new system. However, historical circulation records will not be available in the new system. Those who want to identify previously borrowed and returned materials should make note of their circulation history for their own records prior to June 1.
- Access to electronic resources that are part of the Libraries’ collections will continue both prior to and after launch of the new Libraries Search. Discovery of these resources may not be immediately available in the new Libraries Search after June 26. If you are searching for a resource you cannot find in the Libraries Search, look under the Database Menu or consult with a librarian.
- Links to records in the Classic Catalog or in Summon within Blackboard courses or saved in bibliographies will not work after the migration. Those links will need to be updated after the migration to the new system.
- For those with a proxy request enabling another SU-affiliated individual to borrow materials on their behalf, the request must be resubmitted after June 26 via the Patron Proxy form. The link is also available on library.syracuse.edu/borrowing-process-policies/#BorrowingPolicy.
