Overnight Laptop Policy

- Overnight laptops must be reserved online. Reservations must be made no later than 11:59 PM on the evening prior to the start of the reservation. Laptops will be available to pick up from the Bird Library lockers no later than 12:00 noon on the first day of the reservation.
- Overnight laptops may be borrowed for a maximum of 14 days, per person, per month.
- Overnight laptops are due 15 minutes before the Check Out desk closes on the final day of the reservation. Renewals are not allowed.
- Failure to return the laptop on time may result in a permanent ban on future overnight laptop loan privileges.
- On the first day the item is overdue: Patron borrowing privileges will be suspended and a hold will be placed on the patron’s Bursar account until the item is returned in its condition when originally checked out. To locate an overdue laptop, the Libraries utilize tracking software loaded on the laptop. Laptops will be deactivated. Additional patron services including Interlibrary Loan will also be suspended.
- On the 2nd day the item is overdue: A missing item report will be filed with the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety for possible criminal charges and/or SU/SUNY-ESF judicial sanctions. Replacement fees will be assessed to the patron's account and a hold will be placed on the patron's Bursar account until all items ae returned in their original condition.
- The Libraries require all users to provide University Information to borrow technology items. The Libraries may use University Information and associated data loan information if users fail to return the items as required by the Libraries' Computer Use Policy and Overnight Laptop Policy. Whenever this occurs, the Libraries will provide University Information to the Syracuse University Bursar or the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety. The Libraries will also enable tracking software installed on the technology items to identify their location; tracking may include the use of cameras.
Usage
- Users are prohibited from tampering with the laptop’s hardware and existing software.
- Users are prohibited from installing new software.
- The Libraries are not responsible for damage to or loss of user’s files.
- Users must shut down the laptop prior to returning. The Libraries is not responsible for personal information and documents accessed by other patrons without proper shut down.
Charges
- Late fees for laptops not returned on time are $5 per day for each item borrowed.

- An additional $15 processing fee is applied for unreturned/damaged equipment.
