Construction completed: 1981

Named for: Marshall Street; in 2006 the 100 block of Marshall Street was given the honorary name of Louis Marshall Way. Louis B. Marshall was a Syracuse native and corporate and constitutional lawyer who helped found SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry

Cost: land purchased by original developers for $237,400 in 1979

Location: 720 University Avenue, between Marshall Street and East Adams Street

Space: One block-long enclosed shopping mall adjacent to main campus

Notes: Marshall Square Mall includes a variety of stores and restaurants. The mall was originally developed by partners, Demosthenes Stathis, Dean P. Vlassis, Irwin Berliner, and Eugene Bersani from property purchased from the Syracuse Urban Renewal Agency in 1979. In 2000 and 2001 improvements were made to the smoke and fire detection systems, handicap access increased and a new roof was installed. In fall 2007 SU Recreation Services added a 3,700 sq. ft. fitness center, accommodating 50 people.
