The Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) held a spring open house on March 21, 2024. Staff representing all areas of SCRC were on hand to talk about recent acquisitions, newly available material and many of our other exciting projects and accomplishments from the past year. Included at the event were: a tour of the Joan Breier Brodsky ’67 G’68 Conservation Lab; highlights from SCRC’s SOURCE Explore Pilot Program and Faculty Fellows Program; listening opportunities of Sound Beat episodes that feature our recorded sound holdings; a curator tour of our current exhibition Plasticized: The Proliferation of Plastics in the 20th Century; and a display of new scholarship and publications that used SCRC materials. Among the nearly 100 attendees were students, staff, faculty, community members and many of our esteemed Libraries colleagues. We also received a surprise visit from an entire Studio Arts class who targeted us for a guerrilla art project(?) – you’ll have to ask them about it! In all, the event was a raucous success and we’re already looking forward to hosting it again next year!
Amy McDonald, SCRC Reference and Access Service Librarian, Jana Rosinski, Instruction and Education Librarian, and Courtney Hicks, Lead Curator, Curator of Plastics and Historical Artifacts greet visitors and share information.
