Collection Spotlight: New Features in Qualtrics
by Paul H. Bern, Ph.D., Research Data Services Librarian
Qualtrics has some new features many people will find useful. These include the new Survey Taking Experience, a new Calendar question (which is available only in the new experience), and Contact List Workflows which replace Contact List Triggers.
The New Survey Taking Experience
The new Survey Taking Experience makes taking a survey easier for respondents, especially those on mobile devices. The New Experience (formerly known as the Simple Layout) has enhanced prompts to guide the respondent through your survey. Improved response validation messages aid the respondent in how to answer questions. Additionally, improved accessibility will simplify the survey for all respondents. It’s important to activate the New Experience before you start building your survey because some question types are not compatible with the new experience (most of these are not accessible anyhow). Qualtrics provides additional information on the new Survey Taking Experience on their website.
New Calendar Question
Qualtrics has finally added a Calendar question to the available question types. The Calendar question is only available in the new survey taking experience. This new question type allows respondents to select a single date and time or a date range. Validation can include date ranges and dates in the past or future. Validation is relative to the respondent’s time zone (be sure your own time zone is set properly in Account Settings). Qualtrics provides additional information on the Calendar Question on their website.
Contact List Workflows
Contact List Workflows replace Contact List Triggers. Workflows allow more flexibility and options in managing contact lists. Contact workflows are accessible from the Survey Options > Post-Survey tab as well as from the Workflows tab. Qualtrics provides additional information on the Manage Contact List Workflows on their website.
