IVMF Digital Library and the SU Research Collection
by Grace Swinnerton, IVMF Research and Digital Projects Librarian
Syracuse University Libraries and the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) are proud to announce the launch of the SU Research Collection within the IVMF Digital Library. This collection broadens the scope of the IVMF Digital Library to underscore the vital connection between the IVMF and Syracuse University. Previously, the IVMF Digital Library served as an index of IVMF-produced research alongside a selection of externally created resources. With the creation of the SU Research Collection, the IVMF Digital Library now includes research conducted across Syracuse University about, by and for veterans and military-connected individuals.
By amplifying and preserving research and resources for veterans and their families, the IVMF Digital Library offers a unique, open-access environment that supports Syracuse’s commitment to being the “Best Place for Vets.” It highlights the full spectrum of research and creative output from the SU community, reinforcing the university’s dedication to veteran support and visibility.
“In providing platforms for the research by and for the veteran community as part of our digital library infrastructure, the Libraries join the University and IVMF in honoring the lived experiences of veterans and their families,” remarked Déirdre Joyce, Head of Digital Stewardship and the Digital Library Program at Syracuse University Libraries. “It’s a legacy we’re proud to help steward.”
Scott Warren, Senior Associate Dean for Research Excellence at the Libraries, further observed that “Providing open access to IVMF’s research through the Libraries has created an incredible opportunity for innovation and collaboration with a valued campus partner [IVMF]. Moreover, it reflects the University’s core values of service, scholarship and inclusion – ensuring the knowledge created to support veterans is accessible and impactful for all.”
Currently, the SU Research Collection holds posters from the inaugural Voices of Service Symposium, held in April 2025. Future collecting will focus on veteran-related scholarship at Syracuse University, continuing to demonstrate how SU’s impact extends far beyond its campus borders.
“This is more than a just digital collection—it’s a living testament to Syracuse’s ongoing commitment to veterans,” said Stacy Hawkins, Managing Director of Research and Evaluation at the IVMF.
