Spotify Shelving Playlists
by Laura Benjamin, Access Services Librarian
This year, Access Services had the pleasure of having two Inclusive U interns working with us, Ian Coe and Omari Odom. In addition to the work they do for us, both have also been working with SoundBeat. Ian’s specialty with SoundBeat is creating the soundtracks that underscore the episodes. Omari is a talented artist and has created logos and other art for Sound Beat.
Ian and Omari worked hard this year doing browse counts and other stacks projects for us, but we wanted to put their talents to use in our department as well. Since a large part of the Access Services students’ job duties involves shelving books and many of our student employees listen to music while they are shelving, we thought it would be great for Ian to create a series of shelving playlists for our students to listen to while they work. Listening to the themed music Ian selected provides our students with an opportunity to think about the topics that are on each floor to better familiarize themselves with where to find resources in the library.
Omari contributed to the project by focusing on a few of the themes of the playlist and illustrating cover art to accompany the playlist. We shared a playlist and the accompanying artwork with the Access Services Team and thought others might enjoy checking out the playlists too.
