Connecting From Off Campus

Page main body content

Whether you're a remote/distance student or working off-campus, you can still access library services.

Connecting Off Campus

The Libraries license a variety of research materials, including but not limited to databases, electronic journals, e-books and streaming media. Anyone on campus using an SU or library workstation or using a personal device connected to the guest wireless can access these resources. Off-campus/remote access is limited to current Syracuse University students, faculty and staff, using your SU NetID and password when prompted after linking to a resource from the Libraries Search.

For more information, see our Policy on Access to Licensed Web Resources.

If you live more than 30 miles from campus, we will mail items to your home. Use Request, Delivery and Interlibrary Loan and indicate that you are a distance student in the Notes. Books from other libraries cannot be mailed. Library items may be renewed online by signing in to your Library Account in Libraries Search, then clicking on your name to expand the menu options.

You are responsible for books checked out to you until they are checked in again at the Libraries. To return an item, use the prepaid return label and box in which the item was originally sent.

To access articles or book chapters not available online, request a scanned copy of the item through Request, Delivery and Interlibrary Loan.

Students who need to access library resources from abroad may have difficulty using the off-campus/remote access options through EZ Proxy. In those cases, we recommend you follow directions to use the Remote Desktop Services via Browser.
