2025 Constitution and Voter Registration Days

National Voter Registration Day
September 16, 2025 is National Voter Registration Day. Voting is a constitutional right and a civic responsibility, and one of Syracuse University’s key competencies is encouraging “engagement in responsible, collaborative, and inclusive civic and cross cultural learning…” In collaboration with the Office of Government and Community Relations and as part of the Federal Higher Education Act, universities are required to make a good faith effort to have voter registration forms available to all students eligible to vote. Syracuse University Libraries is proud to provide voter registration forms on the first floor of Bird Library from September 16 through October 24, 2025. For more information on voting eligibility and process, visit https://gcr.syr.edu/voting/.
Constitution Day
September 17, 2025 is Constitution Day, and Syracuse University Libraries is offering free pocket-size Constitution books on September 17th on the first floor of Bird Library. As a congressionally designated depository for U.S. government documents (a Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) member), Syracuse University Libraries provides public access to the government document collection, as guaranteed by public law (Title 44 United States Code). All visitors are welcome to use the Government Documents Collection when the library is open to the public, Monday through Friday 8 am to 7 pm. Providing free copies of the mini-Constitution books is part of the Libraries’ commitment as an FDLP member. More information about the U.S. Constitution is available on the Libraries’ Government Information Research Guide.

In addition, for the remainder of September the Libraries is featuring a display on the first floor of Bird Library with a sampling of items from the Government Documents collection. Materials include the legislative and executive documents of Congress in the American State Papers, Syracuse’s connections with Daniel Webster, the sinking of the Civil War Ironside USS Monitor, and the Congressional House Committee on Un-American Activities. Visitors can look over a selection of books, maps, and artifacts from our Federal Depository Document collection that illuminate other monumental eras of United States history.
