Joan of Arc Throughout the Centuries Pop-Up Exhibition in Celebration of Women’s History Month

Syracuse University Libraries’ Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) and SU Art Museum will present two pop-up exhibitions about the life and legacy of Joan of Arc in celebration of Women’s History Month on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. The SCRC pop-up exhibition will be held in the Antje Bultmann Lemke Seminar Room on the sixth floor of Bird Library from 12:00-2:00 pm, and the SU Art Museum pop-up exhibition will take place the same day in the Museum’s Study Room from 2:00-4:00 pm.
The displays will feature historical materials related to Joan of Arc including original archival and printed materials as well as artwork and advertisements. The pious peasant Joan of Arc (circa 1412—1431) came to lead the French army to victory during the Hundred Years' War only to be executed for heresy in 1431. Canonized as a Catholic saint in 1920, over the centuries Joan has evolved into a powerful symbol of women’s courage. Through a selection of printed and archival materials as well as paintings, photographs and prints, the pop-up exhibitions explore how writers and artists in Europe and North America reimagined Joan of Arc from the eighteenth century to the present.
These events are free and open to the public.
