Summer Reading Kick-Off 2026
Syracuse University Libraries is kicking off summer reading at a Bird Library Drop-In event on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 2 – 4 pm, with the last ‘Bring Your Own Book Club’ event of the semester as part of the Take a Break at Bird programming. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to drop by with their favorite or most recent leisure reading book and share their recommendation with other participants. Representatives from Onondaga County Public Libraries will be on site on April 7 to sign people up for a public library card and share information about the public library’s resources and summer reading program. Syracuse University Libraries staff will highlight the Libraries’ leisure reading collection and hand out a summer reading BINGO board that students can work on over the summer and submit to the Libraries when completed, before the first day of the Fall 2026 semester, for a chance to win prizes.
Syracuse University Libraries partnership with the Onondaga County Public Library, in advance of National Library Week, which starts April 19, highlights the complementary strengths of academic and public libraries. While SU Libraries supports scholarly work and academic exploration that helps students engage deeply within their fields and disciplines, public libraries focus on providing a wide range of services and resources to their local community. Both are community hubs, and this collaboration reflects a shared goal of supporting reading, curiosity and lifelong learning.
