Roses are red, Violets are blue, Sugar is sweet, and the library collection is too!
Whether you’re planning a spectacular day with your sweetie or staying in by yourself or with friends, the libraries collections have many ways of making the day unforgettable. Check out these ideas below:
For couples:
Dinner: Check out the Libraries extensive collection of cookbooks, many of which can be browsed in Bird Library, 4th floor near the LP’s. Either cook together for a heartwarming bonding experience or cook beforehand and enlist a friend to be your waiter!
… and The MET: go fancy and take your date to see a romantic opera! Check out the available operas on Met Opera on Demand and get all dolled up with anywhere to go. Try Il Barbiere di Sivigila, La Bohème, or L'Elisir d'Amore for classical titles or Fire Shut Up in My Bones or Doctor Atomic for more contemporary titles.
… and a movie: Pop some popcorn and settle in for a romantic movie courtesy of SU Libraries! Options include historical romance, LGBTQ+ Romance, Contemporary, Classic, Real Life, French and so much more!
Board game night for 2: The libraries’ collection of board games includes many that have two-player options including Carcassonne, Caverna, Pandemic and Go.
Dancing: Find some romantic music in Naxos Music Library or take a dance class and learn to do the Lindy Hop, the Jitterbug, a waltz, Latin and jazz partner dance and more!
On your own:
Self-care: Get a massage at the library! Reserve the massage chair room and relax or check out the wellness collection.
Discover something new: check out O’Riley for Higher Education and pick up a new skill.
Curl up with a good book: did you know the libraries collects books for pleasure reading too? Find your next read, make a cup of tea and devour a good book.
Movies to love: Check out our collections on Kanopy and Swank and find something to laugh along with. Try I Love Hate Valentine’s Day, Ten Things I Hate About You or Love is Love is Love.
For the gang:
Board game night: Wood for sheep? Many of the board games in the libraries’ collection are great for an evening of fun with your besties! Try Love Letter, Catan and the 5-6 player expansion pack, Exploding Kittens, Pandemic, Betrayal at House on the Hill or Fluxx for group fun!
Make dinner together: Cooking together is a great way to have fun and make memories with a group of friends. Try browsing the cookbooks on the 4th floor of Bird Library, potluck the ingredients and have fun chopping, sautéing or baking your way to fun!
Movies about friendship: Just in time for Palentine’s Day, check out these faves: Clueless, Mean Girls or A League of Their Own.
