Collection Spotlight: Musical Theater Songs
by McKenzie Rybka, M.M. '23
Hunting for musical theater repertoire for yourself or for your students? Look no further! Whether you’re preparing for an audition or exploring for leisure, Musical Theater Songs is an all-encompassing tool to help you select classic and current musical theater repertoire!
Covering over 150 years’ worth of musical theater repertoire, this resource allows you to create a list of titles that can easily be shared via social media. It also provides links to numerous sites for locating sheet music and professional recordings. (You can also check the SU Libraries Catalog to see if we own the title for your sheet music needs.)
What makes this interface special is the ability to search repertoire by an array of unique classifications. Such parameters include voice type, character age, composer/lyricist gender and nationality, tempo, accompanist difficulty, and song popularity. One of the newest features includes repertoire for transgender and nonbinary voices, as well an up-to-date list on organizations working to transmogrify the scope of musical theater!
