Collection Spotlight: On the Cover of the Rolling Stone…
by Amanda DuBose, Music and Performing Arts Librarian
Do you know who’s on the cover of the Rolling Stone this month? How about finding the classic cover when The Stones were first on the cover of the Rolling Stone? (Check out Volume 2 Issue 4, when Rolling Stone declared that they had made “the Great Comeback of Their Career.”) Or check out when Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show finally made it to the cover, albeit as a caricature titled “What’s-Their-Names Make the Cover” (Issue 131) after their rendition of Shel Silverstein’s (yes, that Shel Silverstein!) song “On The Cover of the Rolling Stone” topped the chart for three weeks! This archive contains full text and PDFs of every issue since the inaugural printing on December 14, 1967. While the navigation leaves a little to be desired as readers can only read individual articles and not flip through an entire issue, the ability to access classic articles and investigate current trends in the music business makes up for any difficulties. So click through and check out The Rolling Stone Archive!
