“What ability lurks within women”
On August 31, 1933, famed aviator Amelia Earhart wrote a brief note to photographer and photojournalist, Margaret Bourke-White, thanking Bourke-White for sending on one of her recent photographic prints of the George Washington Bridge in New York City. From one extraordinarily brave and pioneering woman to another, both on the rise to extraordinary accomplishments in their respective fields, Earhart writes, “I have just returned from out of town to find your gift of the beautiful span. I think you have caught the spirit, or what should be the spirit, of the Washington Bridge, subtly and exactly. Thank you for sending it – as an example of photographic art, and also as a demonstration of what ability lurks within women."
Happy International Women’s Day!
