Libraries Hires Two Librarians, Maria Cudowska and Claire Kempa
Syracuse University Libraries’ recently appointed two new librarians. Maria Cudowska was hired as Law Reference Librarian in the Law Library. Claire A. Kempa was hired as Reference and Access Services Librarian in the Special Collections Research Center.
Cudowska will provide reference and research support to students and faculty in the College of Law. Cudowska received her masters of law, or LL.M, from Michigan State University College of Law, as well as a law degree and Ph.D. from the University of Bialystok Faculty of Law in Poland. She is currently pursuing her master’s in library and information science from Syracuse University. Prior to her appointment, Cudowska served as a Faculty Fellow at the Institute for Security Policy and Law, was a Syracuse University Art Museum Fellow, and a Visiting Teaching Professor in the College of Law.
Kempa will provide in-depth in-person and virtual reference services for the Special Collections Research Center. She received her master’s in public history from North Carolina State University, with concentrations in digital humanities and cultural heritage. Prior to joining Syracuse University, Kempa was most recently a Multimedia Archivist at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Other previous experience includes serving as a copy editor at the Wyoming Historical Society in Cheyenne WY, a freelance historical consultant, an archival data management specialist at Strategic Business Services IBM, and an archivist at the Moise A. Khayrallah Center for Lebanese Diaspora Studies in Raleigh, NC.
