Whitman’s Orange Tank moves to NYC on October 24 with $40,000 prize package; apply now

Orange Tank is a Shark Tank-style competition hosted by the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The fifth annual event will be held in New York City on October 24, 2019. Thanks to the generosity of Orange Tank sponsors John Couri ’63 (A&S) and Mark ’83 and Judi ’84 (VPA) Morris, current students and alumni entrepreneurs from the Whitman School of Management can apply for a chance to pitch their business venture to a panel of accomplished judges and vie for up to $40,000 in cash prizes. A grand prize of $25,000 will be awarded to the competition’s top finisher. Monetary awards will be given to the ventures finishing in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in both the student and alumni category.


Five alumni and five student ventures will be selected from the applicants to pitch at the competition. Candidates must apply online by Tuesday, October 1, at 11:59 p.m. ED.

The following are non-negotiable eligibility requirements for participation in the 2019 Orange Tank competition:

Applicants will be notified of their selection status by Friday, October 5, and full details will be provided about the competition format and logistics. Those chosen will have six minutes to pitch, followed by five minutes of Q&A from the judges, who will be looking for:

Whitman welcomes alumni, students and guests to attend Orange Tank as a member of the audience. This year’s event will include the presentation of the 2019 Orange Entrepreneur of the Year (OEY) Award to John Couri ‘63, former chairman and life member of the Syracuse University Board of Trustees, current member of the Whitman Advisory Council and accomplished entrepreneur. A networking reception following the presentation of the OEY award and competition winners will conclude the evening.
